Rochester, New York

Rochester, NY

Greater Rochester, New York, is the 3rd largest metropolitan area in New York, with over one million people. Rochester, the city, is the 79th largest in the United States and also is referred to as "The Flour City, The Flower City, and The Young Lion of the West". The last one may seem strange because of the city’s eastern location, but in the 1800s, it was a major stop for settlers heading to the west coast, many of whom stayed, and the area became the first western boomtown in the country.

The city has a long and storied history, including where Susan B. Anthony was arrested for voting. At The National Susan B. Anthony Museum & House, you can learn about her story and see where she resided as President of the National American Woman Suffrage Association. The museum offers tours and has a Monday Lecture Series.

Take a visual trip back in time at the world-famous George Eastman Museum. George Eastman is credited with pioneering popular motion picture film and photography. The museum is the oldest photography museum in the world and holds one of the oldest film archives. The collections include millions of pieces of cinema, photography, photographically illustrated books, and photographic and cinematographic technology. George Eastman’s mansion is a National Historic Landmark also renowned for its gardens. There are tours of the mansion, gardens, and museum, frequent lectures, music recitals, and more.

Who can resist spending a day (or more) at The Strong National Museum of Play, an interactive museum dedicated to having fun? There are 26 exhibits covering over 100,000 square feet, including the Sesame Street neighborhood, Charlie Brown’s Peanuts and Play Display, Pinball Playfields, Imagination Destination, and so much more. Learn about the evolution of the industries at the National Toy Hall of Fame, the World Video Game Hall of Fame, and the International Center for the History of Electronic Games. As with so many places to visit in Rochester, don’t miss the garden. At the Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden, you’ll experience a rainforest environment and walk among hundreds of tropical and native butterflies.

Bring the fun outdoors at the Seabreeze Amusement Park. Take a ride on the Jack Rabbit Roller Coaster, the longest continuously running roller coaster in the US. There are many thrills, family and kids rides, a waterpark with slides, a wave pool, and a lazy river. There is something to do at every turn. Don’t miss the Cirque En Vol high flying acrobat show. In 2020, the park was named #15 on TripAdvisor’s Best of the Best list for Amusement Parks.

The Mount Hope Cemetery has more inhabitants than the city has residents. About 210,000 people call the city home, and for more than 350,000, it is their final resting place. Susan B. Anthony, Frederick Douglass, and many other abolitionists are buried here. There have been many ghost tales centered on the cemetery.

Not all inhabitants are welcome there; nuisance wildlife is at the top of the no-live list. If bats, raccoons, and rodents have moved in, Patriot Wildlife can get them out. We specialize in animal removal, exclusion, and repair. Contact us today for an estimate.
