Wildlife Exclusion

An ounce of prevention can be worth over twenty pounds of cure when it comes to preventing nuisance wildlife from getting into your home or business. Contact Patriot Wildlife if you are looking for a property to buy, have a manufacturing facility, or just want to ensure your home is locked up tight. An inspection is only the first step in our process. We search the structure for potential entry points and verify whether or not it is an active site. If it is unclear to the naked eye, we can use various techniques for confirmation.

If there are no signs of activity, we can seal the openings regardless of size. A mouse can slip through a ¼ inch opening, and it doesn’t take long for them to increase the size of a smaller one. To cut access off to holes up to ½ an inch, we use caulks and other sealants, depending on the material the opening is in. Hardware cloth, a wire mesh, is also used to keep out rats and mice.

If an opening is deemed active, we must take another action. If the openings are sealed up too soon, and animals like squirrels and raccoons are trapped, there is the potential for massive damage and contamination. With one-way doors and other traps, we can get the property cleared of the nuisance and proceed with the exclusion process.

Areas like decks, crawlspaces, and foundations may need protection from digging animals such as raccoons and skunks. Trench screening is used for them, except where airflow is required, we use galvanized mesh wire. Squirrels and birds are notorious for entering openings like dryers, bathrooms, and sewer vents. Plastic or metallic vent caps cover these openings without hindering airflow or causing blockages.

Some wild animals are familiar visitors to your roof and can enter through the chimney. Over time the blockages they cause can create fire hazards and carbon monoxide risks and result in poor air quality in the home. Chimney caps keep the critters out and are now available in decorative shapes, seamlessly fitting into your home’s aesthetic.  Great care must be taken regarding exclusion for bats. They are federally protected and return to roost annually in the same place. Our experts know their breeding habits and keeping the young who cannot fly with the adults is crucial.

Part of exclusion includes making the necessary environmental changes to keep animals away from your property. Ensuring garbage areas are secure cuts off the food supply for many intruders, and trimming back overhanging tree branches removes roof access.
